After 6 months of the inaugural UK Varsity Startup Challenge, 4 of the most promising startups from universities across the UK were selected to join the 4 week Varsity Ventures Lab and the chance to receive up to £300k seed funding. 

Packed full of workshop, talks and peer-to-peer learning from leading mentors and advisors, the Varsity Ventures Lab ends with a Demo Day where the 2015 winner will be crowned in front of 100 prominent investors, media and successful entrepreneurs.

Varsity Ventures Lab

The UK Varsity Startup Challenge is designed to provide startups coming out of universities a clear road map of how to develop their business, and provide access to mentorship and investment from tech cities like London.

Within 90 days of the end of the 2015 university year, a startup will receive up to £300,000 of seed investment with leading advisors from the UK startup community supporting you to grow your business.

Fergie Miller


Fergie launched his first startup at Edinburgh University and grew travel business Base Camp to operations in 5+ countries before exiting in 2011. He has spent the last 4 years in seed and early stage startups in the UK and Asia, is a Lean Startup Machine mentor, and an Innovation Consultant at Venture Scout, sister company to Europe’s largest accelerator Startupbootcamp.


Tobias Stone


Tobias Stone has been a startup entrepreneur, but also has experience in investment and innovation strategy. Tobias is an academic specialising in innovation and accelerators, is a Partner at DotForge Accelerator in the UK, and a Founder of the Eye Focus Accelerator in Berlin, which is evolving how accelerators can be used to build ecosystems and create value.


Tony Fish


A serial entrepreneur, author, speaker and now investor. Tony Cofounded and ran London’s first startup community Mashup* event, Cofounded Farringdon’s digital acceleration space Innovation Warehouse, is a Partner at SBT Venture Capital and currently working on his latest startup Fab Lab London, an IoT digital fabrication space in the heart of Tech City.


Matthew Stafford


Matthew started his career at BNY Mellon before completing an MBA at Imperial College London in 2010 and transitioning into startups. Matt is an active member of the UK startup scene; he Cofounded the Collider12 accelerator, Cofounded Student Upstarts, a seed investment programme, and more recently Cofounded 9others, a global business network that hosts events in over 30 cities.
